Curriculum
YOU ARE WHAT YOU UNDERSTAND.

There is a major difference between learning and understanding: if you understand a subject thoroughly, you are able to share your knowledge with others. The decorated professors of the University of Cincinnati online Master of Science in Criminal Justice program are focused on helping their students understand the CJ industry completely. Our leaders don’t just create MCJ graduates—they create leaders.
The UC professors teach around a comprehensive 16-course curriculum. The word “comprehensive” is used liberally in education, but rarely justified. Over eight, 12-week quarters (two years), you will be exposed to every part of the criminal justice industry: criminology, social control, corrections, law enforcement, juvenile justice, and the legal system. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. You will also learn about policies, professional writing, research methods, analyzing criminal behavior, and application of principles. Our graduates truly understand the Criminal Justice industry thoroughly and are prepared to be leaders in their community, where we expect them to make leaders out of others.
Leaders creating leaders isn’t just about our professors and their students, but about our graduates and their ability to change the criminal justice industry.
Comprehensive and Relevant.
The four-pronged curriculum is organized into theory, administration and policy, research, and special topics. In addition to content-based courses, you will also complete a demonstration project that will enable you to apply your course knowledge to real-world policy issues.
The University of Cincinnati has developed two paths to obtain your Master of Science in Criminal Justice: a two-year part-time program and a one-year accelerated program.
