FACULTY AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

  • Dr. Pat Van Voorhis was named as the recipient of the August Vollmer Award by the American Society of Criminology. The August Vollmer Award (established in 1959) recognizes a criminologist whose research scholarship has contributed to justice or to the treatment or prevention of criminal or delinquent behavior, either through a single outstanding work, a series of theoretical or research contributions, or on the accumulated contributions by a senior scholar.
  • Drs. Frank Cullen, Robin Engel, and Bonnie Fisher were recognized as Top Cited Authors for 2001-2010 in the March 2011 issue of Justice Quarterly.
  • Dr. John Wright was recognized for having a Top Cited Article for 2007-2010 in the March 2011 issue of Justice Quarterly: Wright, J; Beaver, K; Delisi, M; et al., Evidence of negligible parenting influences on self-control, delinquent peers, and delinquency in a sample of twins, Vol. 25 (3) 544-569.

  • Dr. Jim Frank has been elected the second vice president of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Professor Frank will assume the presidency in 2013.
  • Drs. Bonnie Fisher, Frank Cullen, and Leah Daigle won the Outstanding Book Award and the Donal MacNamara Award (January 2011).
  • Dr. Robin Engel participated in the policy discussion on policing and safety at Harvard, which was sponsored by the National Institute of justice and the White House (November 2010).
  • Dr. Frank Cullen was named as one of 18 experts to the new Office of Justice Programs Science Advisory Board by the Attorney General (November 2010).
  • Dr. Bonnie Fisher received the Journal of Forensic Nursing Writing Award for Excellence in Research (October 2010).
  • Dr. Pat Van Voorhis was recognized by The Georgia Department of Corrections for her outstanding contributions to training, evaluation, and consultation.
  • Dr. Frank Cullen, Distinguished Research Professor, was named the recipient of the Edwin H. Sutherland Award by the American Society of Criminology for his contributions to theory and research in the field of criminology. He was presented with the award at the ASC Conference in San Francisco, November 2010.
  • Dr. Ed Latessa, Professor and Director, received the Maude Booth Correctional Award from the American Correctional Association for his contributions to the field of corrections. He was presented with the award in Chicago, IL, August 2010.
  • Dr. Ed Latessa, Professor and Director, received the 2010 Outstanding Community Partner Award for his exceptional work, continued assistance with Research and Development’s program evaluations, and his expertise in using evidence-based knowledge to improve correctional program effectiveness. The award was presented in October 2010 at their Honors Ceremony by the Arizona Dept. of Juvenile Corrections, Research & Development.
  • Dr. Ed Latessa received the Community Hero Award from the Community Resources for Justice for his accomplishments and contributions to community corrections. He received this in Boston, April 2010.
  • Dr. Ed Latessa received the 2010 Bruce Smith Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences for his many contributions to the field of corrections. He received this award at the annual ACJS conference in San Diego, February 2010.
  • Dr. Frank Cullen, Distinguished Research Professor, received the Donal A. J. MacNamara Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences for the outstanding publication, “Racial Discrimination and Hirschi’s Criminological Classic: A Chapter in the Sociology of Knowledge,” which appeared in the September 2009 issue of Justice Quarterly. The Awards Committee “determined that the article was well written, highly relevant, and important to our discipline.” The award was presented at the ACJS conference in San Diego, February 2010.
  • Dr. James Frank, Professor, received the President’s Award from the Western Society of Criminology for contributions to the field of Criminology and positive influence on the current president’s career. He received this at their annual conference in February 2010.

The Carnegie Commission classifies the University of Cincinnati as a Doctoral/Research Extensive University, one of only 151 in the nation of nearly 4,000 institutions of higher education.
